Abstract

User Experience (UX) is a crucial aspect of digital application development, yet understanding UX concepts often remains limited, especially among users or students without prior exposure. This study develops a simulation game based on game-based learning to enhance fundamental UX understanding through interactive scenarios and interface design selection. The evaluation consisted of three stages: design validation, gameplay testing, and understanding measurement using pre-test and post-test. Assessment of 42 designs across 14 scenarios showed consistent judgments from respondents who had taken a UX course in identifying the best and weakest designs. Gameplay testing confirmed that all features functioned properly without technical issues. The comparison of pre-test and post-test results indicated an improvement in respondents ability to identify interface design problems after playing the game. Subjective ratings also showed that the game aligns well with UX learning objectives with average score 4.35/5. These findings indicate that the developed simulation game is suitable as a learning medium for introducing fundamental User Experience concepts.
