Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) connects physical devices to the internet, enabling them to communicate and exchange data without human intervention. In modern times, IoT has become an essential part of daily life due to its ability to integrate various systems and provide real-time information management. One of the most promising IoT applications is the smart home, which offers increased comfort, energy efficiency, and security. By using smart devices such as lights, thermostats, and security systems, smart homes optimize energy consumption and offer real-time monitoring, reducing energy waste and improving safety. Smart homes can autonomously control lighting based on occupancy, regulate temperatures according to user preferences, and provide security alerts in case of emergencies. However, challenges such as privacy concerns, infrastructure limitations, and the high cost of devices still exist. The potential for future innovations, including AI, machine learning, and blockchain, is expected to further enhance the efficiency and security of smart homes. This study reviews the role of IoT in smart homes, focusing on energy efficiency and security, and discusses current and future trends in the field.
