Abstract

Plastic pollution in water bodies is a major environmental issue impacting marine life and human health. This project develops a system using drones equipped with AI to detect and monitor plastic waste in aquatic environments. The approach involves capturing high-resolution aerial images and applying machine learning algorithms to identify and classify different types of plastic. Initial findings show that the system can accurately detect various plastics, providing crucial data on their distribution and volume. This information aids authorities in planning effective cleanup operations. Despite challenges like varying lighting conditions, the project highlights the potential of using drone technology and AI for better monitoring and management of plastic pollution in our oceans.
