Abstract

This research aims to systematically map the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indonesian language learning based on empirical studies published between 2018 and 2025. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with PRISMA guidelines, this study identifies, evaluates, and synthesizes relevant literature from various digital databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and SINTA. The article selection process involved screening 782 articles, resulting in 25 primary studies that met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that the most common forms of AI utilized are chatbots for conversational practice, intelligent tutoring systems (ITS), and gamified applications like Wordwall for vocabulary and writing exercises. The language skills most frequently targeted are writing (especially descriptive texts) and reading comprehension, followed by vocabulary. Benefits reported include increased student motivation, personalized feedback, and learning flexibility. However, significant challenges remain, including the digital literacy gap among teachers, unequal access to infrastructure, and ethical concerns regarding data privacy and plagiarism. This review concludes that while AI offers significant potential to enhance Indonesian language learning, its successful implementation requires strategic pedagogical planning and robust teacher support.
